Practical Magic Prep: Full Moon in Libra

Be my sister, Sister, Sister of the Moon

An important and highly potent magical Full Moon to kick off the astrological new year (remember Aries season kicks off the wheel of the year back on March 20 so this is our first Full Moon of the new year). This moon is associated historically with Passover, the exodus and the power of leaving behind the old to start your journey of faith, magic and possibility as your move toward the promised land of your own positive future.

The Night is Coming. And the Starling Flew for Days.

Here’s the thing about the promised land. I’ve learned in my forty-three years of existence that there is a delicate and damn hard balance point between gratitude and yearning. The sweet spot for creating is to feel genuine gratitude and happiness for where you are and what you have – right here and now. It’s what the stoics speak of, mindfulness talks of, and so many philosophies are trying to help us achieve. But there’s also this great burning inside my soul to want to do more, try more, see more, achieve more, create more and I personally can find that balance off many days. This Full Moon being in Libra, the sign of balance and equity, is inviting me and you to tap into that balance point of gratitude AND goals. Presence AND dreams. Appreciating where we are AND looking ahead to where we want to go. It’s not easy (at least for me). I believe one of the reasons I was born with earth and fire in my primal triad is that finding this balance is one of my life’s greatest goals. Libra invites me, and you, to dance this beautiful interplay of contrast.

Libra energy is also about finding your authentic voice within relationships and partnerships and being able to use it. To be able to discern when you need to speak your mind, say your peace and state your desires. When I think of Libra I always think of a line from Sex & the City where Carrie is typing her monologue setting up that week’s episode.. "When does the art of compromise become compromising?" That’s the fundamental question which Libra is also putting forth. How are you compromising too much with your most important relationships (the one with yourself and your health? The one with your partner or spouse? The one with your child or parent?). Healthy conflict resolution is a skill we are mostly all woefully lacking and this Libra Full Moon is a chance to contemplate on, or brush up on, the skills needed to be able to speak your truth and find your balance.
